The Southeast

Map of states of the Southeast region

The Southeast consists of beautiful landscapes ranging from the hills and mountains of the Southern Appalachian chain, to the sandy beaches of the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, to the swampy wetlands of South Florida and Louisiana. The climate throughout most of the region is warm and humid with mild winters. As a result, the southeast is one of the most popular tourist areas spots in the country. Besides tourism, the economy benefits agriculturally (thanks to the long growing season and plentiful rainfall) and is a vital manufacturing region of the US. In large part due to such a pleasant climate, the southeast has become a commonplace for retirees from other regions of the country.
